This once stumped a whole group of chess players at a meeting, but if you remember one of the lessons in the previous puzzles, you’ll get it.


The secret to the position is that the white king is within the queening square of the created black passed pawn. Then the unlikely pawn move followed by the right pawn advance caps it. 1.c4! bxc3 2.Ke3 c2 3.Kd2 c1Q+ 4.Kxc1 Kg5 5.a4! Kxg4 6.b4 h5 7.bxa5! h4 8.a6 h3 9.a7 Kg3 10.a8Q Kh2 11.Qf3 Kg1 12.Qg3+ Kh1 13.Qf2 h2 14.Qf1#
