An interesting position from Baleri Beim’s Chess Recipes from the Grandmaster’s Kitchen. White can win, lose or draw from this position, all depending on the first move.


1.Rd6 It's only a draw after 1.Nxg4 Kh5; And it's a loss for White after 1.Qxg4+ Kh7 and Black even gets winning chances against 1.Qf8 Rg8 2.Qd6 Qxd6 3.Rxd6+ Kh5 4.Nxg4 Rxg4+ 5.Kf2 Rb4 1...Qxd6 2.Qxg4+ Kf7 3.Qxg7+ Kxg7 4.Nf5+ Kf8 5.Nxd6 and wins easily.
