Now you should get this third in the Swedish Chess Challenge in about a millisecond. If you had to think any longer, then you need to learn a very important concept here.


1…Kd8 Black has to maintain the opposition so if 2.Ke6 then 2…Ke8 or 2.Kc6 then Kc8 in both cases leading to a draw by stalemate after the pawn check on d7 and the king move to d6. The other two first move choices lose.
