You can get in a lot of trouble if you go pawn grabbing in the opening. This game between Rekka and Bobrinski in 1961 is one reason why.


Solution:

The diagram was reached after 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 e5 5. Nb3 Nf6 6. Bg5 Be7 7. Nc3 Nxe4 8.Nxe4 Bxg5 9. Nd6+ Ke7 10. Bc4 Rf8 11. Nf5+ Kf6 (See Diagram) 12. Qd6+ Kxf5 13. Bd3+ e4 (13...Kf4 14. g3+ Kf3 15. Be4+ Kg4 16. h3+ Kh5 17. Bf3#) (13... Kg4 14. h3+ Kf4 15.g3+ Kf3 16. Qd5+ e4 17. Qxe4#) 14. Bxe4+ Black Resigned as after 14… Kxe4 15. f3+ Kf5 (15... Ke3 16. Qd2#)16. g4#
