President Donald Trump blasted Democrats for threatening to investigate his administration and Republican donors, saying he ordered the Department of Justice to launch its own probe against them.

As Democrats prepare to take control of both chambers of Congress in January following their decisive victory in the midterm elections, they have vowed to launch multiple probes into the Trump administration, warning key figures to “lawyer up.”

Trump criticized Democrats for “threatening a lot of people” with impeachment, calling it “extortion” and saying people should be held accountable, although he didn’t specify what crimes he was referring to.

“This is Weaponization and Lawfare at another level,” he wrote in a social media post. “I am ordering the Department of Justice to look into this criminal act, immediately!”

Democrats have signaled they’ll use their new investigative powers to dig into a wide range of subjects, including evidence about the disgraced, late financier Jeffrey Epstein and how the Trump administration handled the review of documents Congress required to be released. They have also pledged probes of Trump’s tariffs, immigration policies and stock trades, among other targets.
