COLUMBIA, S.C. — Multiple people were injured overnight in a shooting at a nightclub in South Carolina, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 1 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a call about a shooting at La Rumba, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s a nightclub at 1745 Decker Boulevard, which is in a part of Columbia between North Trenholm Road and I-77.

Deputies found two shooting victims, according to the release. One had been shot in the upper body, and the other was shot in the lower body, the sheriff’s department said.

It was not clear if shots were fired inside the club.

Deputies provided aid to the victims until EMS took them to a local hospital, according to the release. At the hospital, deputies learned that two additional shooting victims had been taken to the hospital by private vehicles, the sheriff’s department said.

Information about the victims’ conditions was not available, but no deaths have been reported.

There was no word about the shooter, or shooters, or the number of people involved. Information about a motive for the gunfire was not available.

No arrests have been reported, but the shooting is being investigated by the sheriff’s department.

Recent club and bar shootings

There have been multiple shootings at nightclubs and bars in the Columbia area in recent months, including a recent one that occurred little more than a mile from where the Sunday morning gunfire happened.

Earlier this month, on Sept. 13, eight people were shot in a nightclub in the 2700 block of Decker Boulevard, the sheriff’s department said. No deaths were reported in the shooting that continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s department.

On Aug. 28, one person was hurt in a shooting at the Vegas Knights club and lounge at 3722 River Drive, the sheriff’s department said.

On June 14, one person was killed and many more were injured in a shooting at the Jerk Hut at 1004 Zimalcrest Drive, the sheriff’s department said. Eight people were injured, the sheriff’s department told The State. Of those, five were shooting victims, while the other victims were hurt when trampled by people rushing to exit the bar, the sheriff’s department said.

On May 17, three people were shot, including a woman who died, at Ole Place, a bar at 3311 Two Notch Road, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Early in the morning on May 10, a man was shot and killed by a Forest Acres police officer outside Relapse Bar & Grill, at 5024 Two Notch Road, the sheriff’s department said.

Three days later, a South Carolina man was shot and killed May 13 by a security guard after he and a woman were thrown out of club Bar Code, at 224 Oneil Court in Columbia, the sheriff’s department said.
