A Secret Service agent assigned to protect Vice President JD Vance has reportedly been put on administrative leave amid an investigation into leaks of embarrassing information about his “inappropriate” travel requests including a planned helicopter ride to ferry his son to a golf lesson.

The unnamed agent is suspected of being the anonymous source who revealed grousing among Vance’s team over his last-minute and questionable travel like using a Marine Two chopper for house-hunting trips in rural Virginia where the second family have found an expansive property to live part time.

The Secret Service and the FBI are investigating the leak which could be considered to be an unauthorized disclosure of operational details about its protection of Vance and his family.

Usha Vance this month gave birth to the couple’s fourth child, making JD Vance the first sitting vice president to have a kid in 150 years. Former Vice President Al Gore was the last veep to have young children while in office and living at the official residence, the Naval Observatory.

The most eye-catching claim in the original leaked story was that Vance planned to use the chopper for a golf lesson for his elementary school age son at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. The trip was scrapped due to bad weather.

Agents said vice presidential family members would normally be expected to travel in government SUVs for such personal matters, not the chopper.

The leak was notable because Secret Service agents generally maintain a strict code of secrecy about travel by protectees, especially the president and vice president.

It’s not the first claim of entitled behavior by Vance, who is considered a likely 2028 presidential candidate. He says he will discuss his future political plans after the midterm elections.

Last summer, the Secret Service intervened with local authorities to improve the water flow at an Ohio river to accommodate a planned rafting trip for Vance and his family.
