BALTIMORE — At least three men were shot Friday afternoon in New Northwood, according to Baltimore Police.
Officials responded around 5 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the shopping center in the 1400 block of East Cold Spring Lane. Upon arrival, officers found three men, two 24-year-olds and one 25-year-old, with multiple gunshot wounds.
All three victims were transported to a hospital and are currently listed in stable condition, police said Friday evening.
According to an alert sent out by Morgan State University Police, three unknown suspects displayed and fired a weapon. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.
More than 25 yellow evidence markers littered the parking lot of a New Northwood shopping plaza along East Cold Spring Lane.
Baltimore Police blocked the street from Kelway Road to just after Loch Raven Blvd., with police tape surrounding the street and Cold Spring Shopping Center.
A Maryland State Police helicopter circled the area as Baltimore Police’s Forensics team canvassed the scene.
As of 6:25 p.m., police opened East Cold Spring Lane to traffic, but the shopping center remained taped off.
Elouise Lemon, who lives across the street, said she came out to her porch to see three men lying down in the parking lot. She said she recognized them as people who often sat in chairs outside of the plaza.
“It’s so sad all young men got shot like that,” Lemon said to The Baltimore Sun on Friday evening. “I hope they all get well.”
An evidence marker sat atop one of those chairs with a red hat on the sidewalk nearby.
Rose Douglas, who has lived in the New Northwood neighborhood for more than 50 years, said the area has “never had this kind of problem.”
Douglas pointed to the smoke shop as a potential cause of the crime: “They should have a security person there at all times.”
