The White House Correspondents Association Tuesday rescheduled its annual dinner for July 24 after the shooting aimed at President Trump cut short the gala in April.

“We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word, especially during a year when we are reflecting on the 250th anniversary of America and everything we stand for,” Weijia Jiang, the president of the WHCA, said in a letter to members.

The letter said the rescheduled event would take place in Washington, D.C.

Trump said he plans to attend and said the event would be held at the Waldorf Astoria hotel.

Jiang vowed the group would implement “significantly enhanced safety measures and new access procedures” for the replay of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The decision to reschedule the WHCD was “not automatic,” Jiang said, and was made only “after thoughtful consideration and input from our members.”

She said the dinner would be a “more intimate” event but did not elaborate.

Accused gunman Cole Allen sprinted past a Secret Service checkpoint and opened fire in a hallway outside the Washington Hilton ballroom where Trump and other officials were gathered on April 25.

Trump, Vice President JD Vance and members of the Cabinet were escorted to safety as journalists and other VIPs took cover under tables in the chaos. One Secret Service agent was shot in the attack, but was not seriously hurt.

Allen, 31, who pleaded not guilty, is awaiting trial on a string of charges.

Trump has used the shooting as leverage in his effort to win congressional support for $1 billion in security funding for his glitzy White House ballroom.
