COL FB: California 34, Stanford 28

STANFORD, Calif. (UPI) -- Shane Vereen rushed for 193 yards on 42 carries with three touchdowns Saturday, leading California to a 34-28 win over arch-rival and 17th-ranked Stanford.

He scored once in the second quarter and twice in the third in place of injured Jahvid Best (two concussions this season).

Kevin Riley completed 17-of-31 passes for 235 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Anthony Miller and Verran Tucker combined for 101 receiving yards, while Vince D'Amato kicked two field goals for the Bears (8-3, 5-3 Pac-10), who have won five of six.

Toby Gerhart led Stanford with 136 yards on 20 carries, running for four touchdowns.

Andrew Luck passed for 157 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

He also gained 31 yards on seven carries for the Cardinal (7-4, 6-3), who were eliminated from the Rose Bowl picture.
