Kurt Warner earns NFC Player honor

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner is the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week after throwing five touchdown passes against the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Warner completed 22-of-32 passes for 261 yards with no interceptions, leading the Cardinals to a 41-21 victory.

The five touchdowns equaled a single-game career high and made the former Northern Iowa product the first Cardinals' quarterback since Charley Johnson in 1969 to throw five scoring passes in a single game.

The effort followed five interceptions in a 34-21 loss to Carolina, and was his eighth monthly player award in his 12 NFL seasons.

Other NFC honors went to New Orleans tackle Anthony Hargrove (defense) and Tampa Bay kick-returner Clifton Smith (special teams).

Hargrove had two fumble recoveries, a touchdown on a fumble return, a forced fumble and three tackles in the Saints' 30-20 win over Carolina.

Smith totaled 161 total return yards in the Bucs' 38-28 win over Green Bay, their first this season.
