Coduit repeats in BC Turf
Dar Re Mi finished third and Spanish Moon was fourth in the 1 1/2-mile grass fixture.
Presious Passion shot out of the gate to his typical early lead, opening up 12 lengths on the field as they passed the finish line for the first time. When the pack started gaining on him nearing the final turn, Presious Passion hit another gear for jockey Elvis Trujillo and Conduit was all-out to get by him for the half-length victory.
Since his win last year, Conduit had a successful campaign in England, capped with a victory in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. The 4-year-old, Irish-bred son of Dalakhani then finished a credible fourth last month in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, behind top-ranked and now-retired Sea The Stars.
The colt is trained by Sir Michael Stoute for his owner/breeder, Ballymacoll Stud.
Presious Passion came into the race off a front-running victory in the Clement Hirsch over the same Santa Anita turf course last month. The 6-year-old Royal Anthem gelding now has four wins and three seconds from eight starts this year with his only serious defeat coming in the Arlington Million.
Dar Re Mi, the only filly in the race, finished fifth in the Arc after winning Group 1 stakes in Ireland, England and France earlier in the summer. She is a 4-year-old Singspiel filly.
