COL FB: Miami (Fla.) 52, Virginia 17

MIAMI (UPI) -- Graig Cooper rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown and Damien Berry ran for two others Saturday in a 52-17 ACC romp by No. 17 Miami (Fla.) over Virginia.

Miami is 7-2 overall (4-2 in the ACC) after winning for the fifth time in six games. Virginia (3-6, 2-3) lost its third consecutive game.

Miami led 24-17 at the half and put the game out of reach with a pair of long drives in the third period. Berry completed a 79-yard possession with a 2-yard scoring run and had a 1-yard scoring burst that ended an 80-yard drive and put the Hurricanes up 38-17.

Cooper's touchdown came early in the fourth quarter and freshman reserve quarterback A.J. Highsmith had a 15-yard touchdown throw to Kendal Thompkins to cap the Miami scoring.

Virginia used a blocked punt to get in position to take a 10-3 lead in the first quarter, with Rashawn Jackson scoring on a 34-yard run.

But Leonard Hankerson tied the score for Miami with a 35-yard touchdown reception and Thearon Collier put the Hurricanes ahead for good with a 60-yard punt return for a score.
