NHL: Dallas 2, Vancouver 1

DALLAS (UPI) -- Marty Turco fended off 32 shots to lead the Dallas Stars past the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 Friday.

Brendon Morrow scored the game-winning goal for the Stars on a power play at 3:50 of the third period in a game that featured superb goaltending on both ends.

Cory Schneider was peppered with 47 shots in relief of Andrew Raycroft. Raycroft has been starting in place of Canucks star Roberto Lungo, who was sidelined last week with a fractured rib. Schneider stopped 22 shots in the scoreless first period.

Turco showed his mettle in the closing minutes when Vancouver mounted a 5-on-3 power-play attack for 18 seconds and had a man advantage for the last 1:18 of the game.

Dallas took a 1-0 lead on Brad Richards' goal in the second period, then went ahead 2-0 when Morrow chipped the puck onto an open net at 3:50 of the third period.

Mason Raymond scored Vancouver's goal with 11:46 to play to cut the gap to one.
