Murray, Davydenko win at Valencia Open

VALENCIA, Spain (UPI) -- Scotsman Andy Murray and Russia's Nikolay Davydenko won their quarterfinal matches Friday at the Valencia Open tennis tournament in Spain.

Murray, the top seed, advanced to a semifinal berth for the 10th time this season with an easy 6-4, 6-2 win over unseeded Albert Montanes of Spain.

"I think I played well today, and I hope I can play even better (Saturday)," Murray told reporters while speaking with ice on his right wrist.

Elsewhere, Davydenko, the second seed, downed Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-4, 7-6 (7-3); fourth-seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain, the 2004 Valencia champion, ousted fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-3, 6-2; and Russia's Mikhail Youzhny beat fifth-seeded Gilles Simon of France 6-4, 6-4.

Saturday's semis are Murray-Verdasco and Davydenko-Youzhny.

Sunday's winner at the final will earn $475,000.
