NHL: Atlanta 5, Montreal 4

MONTREAL (UPI) -- Atlanta's Colby Armstrong notched a goal late in the third period and the Thrashers rode 34 saves from Ondrej Pavelec to post a 5-4 win over Montreal Tuesday.

Rich Peverley recorded a goal and two assists for Atlanta, which has won two straight on the road after a four-game losing streak.

Bryan Little notched a goal and an assist and Pavel Kubina added his first goal of the season for Atlanta, while the Canadiens got two goals from Brian Gionta and one each from Mike Cammalleri and Tomas Plekanec.

The Canadiens rallied from a 3-1 deficit but fell short for their third loss in four games. Montreal goalie Carey Price allowed all five goals on just 30 shots.

Plekanec tied the game for Montreal at 4-4 with 7:20 left in regulation but Armstrong responded 34 seconds later to put Atlanta on top to stay. On the play, Marty Reasoner pinpointed a pass across the crease to Armstrong for the easy tap-in and the 5-4 advantage.

Pavelec then stood up to a furious Canadiens assault in the final minutes.
