Andreev leads 1st-round winners in Moscow
Andreev won the first set 6-2 against Yen-Hsun Lu before his opponent from Taiwan retired with a right-ankle injury on the indoor carpet at Olympic Stadium. Andreev won this tournament three years ago.
Andreev, a Moscow native and resident, will face Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in the round of 16.
In other first-day play, Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez defeated France's Nicolas Devilder 6-2, 6-4; French veteran Fabrice Santoro beat Yuri Schukin of Kazakhstan 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4; and Chardy defeated Italian Potito Starace 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
This week's top seed is three-time Moscow champion Nikolay Davydenko. The Russian star has won the last two titles here, including a victory over Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in last year's Kremlin Cup final.
