MLS: Toronto FC 3, New York 1

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (UPI) -- Chad Barrett scored twice Saturday to key Toronto FC's 3-1 victory against the New York Red Bulls.

Barrett opened the scoring with his seventh goal this season in the 27th minute unassisted.

After a tally by New York midfielder Dane Richards in the 49th minute knotted the game 1-1, Barrett scored in the 65th minute.

Abdus Ibrahim capped the victory by scoring his fifth goal in the 86th minute.

The surprise win helped Toronto, which occupies last place in the Eastern Conference, improve to 8-12-7, but stalled the Red Bulls' attempt to qualify for the post-season.

The Red Bulls (9-10-8) have reached the post-season all but three times in their 13-year MLS history. The last time they missed the playoffs was in the 2002 season.

Toronto had been winless in its last seven matches and will not play in the post-season.
