Orioles to bring back manager

BALTIMORE (UPI) -- The Baltimore Orioles exercised their signing option Friday and will bring back Manager Dave Trembley for the 2009 season.

Initially, he was promoted to interim manager from bullpen coach in the 2007 season following the firing of predecessor Sam Perlozzo.

Before Friday night's contest against the Oakland Athletics, Baltimore had a 103-129 record under the 56-year-old Trembley, the 17th manager in franchise history.

He had managed nearly 1,800 games in the minors before becoming the Orioles' full-time skipper.

The Orioles, despite being last in the five-team American League East Division, have played hard under his guidance and have been competitive despite key injuries, including third baseman Melvin Mora (hamstring strain) and closer Chris Ray (elbow surgery).
