MLB: Chi. Cubs 3, Philadelphia 2

PHILADELPHIA (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano's seventh inning homer Friday lifted the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 win over Philadelphia for their seventh straight victory.

The free-swinging left fielder's 23rd homer this season snapped a 2-2 tie with one out and none on in the bottom of the inning.

Two others had one RBI, while three others had one hit in the NL Central-leading Cubs' eighth win in their last 10 games.

The winning pitcher was reliever Steve Samardzija (1-0) after starter Rich Harden gave up two runs -- one earned -- and three hits in five innings with four walks and five strikeouts.

Carlos Marmol recorded his seventh save.

Philadelphia scored on Pat Burrell's first inning single and Kosuke Fukodome's fifth inning throwing error.

Burrell had two of the six hits for the Phillies, who losers of three in a row.

Starter Joe Blanton surrendered two earned runs and two hits in 5 2/3 innings, but losing pitcher Clay Condrey (3-4) gave up Soriano's blast.
