Quinn Hughes pops by 'Saturday Night Live'

Minnesota Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes didn’t score big laughs in his “Saturday Night Live” appearance on Saturday but that didn’t stop the live studio audience from going nuts.
“SNL” usually keeps cameos top secret, but astute fans were well aware ahead of time that Hughes and his brother Jack Hughes would be popping up on the late-night show, part of a media tour celebrating their gold medals at the Olympics.
The siblings were rather stiff as they flanked host Connor Storrie during the opening monologue that revolved around the red-hot HBO Max series, “Heated Rivalry,” in which Storrie plays a bisexual hockey player.
“It’s about hockey, right?” Quinn asked with a frozen smile.
“Sort of,” Storrie replied.
The Hughes brothers’ appearance was well-received, but the applause was even greater when Hilary Knight and Megan Keller, members of the gold-winning U.S. women’s hockey team, joined them on stage.
“It was going to be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too,” said Knight who previously appeared on “SNL” in 2018.
Those weren’t the only guests to stop by. Storrie’s co-star Hudson Williams skated into a later scene that starred Minnesota native Tommy Brennan, who joined the cast this year and has made past references to his home state.
Quinn is also scheduled to appear March 2 on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
The “SNL” episode opened with a hastily written sketch in which Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) joked that he bombed Iran so he could distract Americans from the Epstein files and cause havoc in the “SNL” writers’ room.
Musical guests Mumford & Sons performed “Rubber Band Man” early in the show with Hozier. The group was later joined by Sierra Ferrell.
