Philip Broberg, Robert Thomas shine in Blues' 4-1 win over Bruins

ST. LOUIS — When the Blues needed goals on Thursday, they received them from the players that should be supplying them.
In a 4-1 win over the Bruins at Enterprise Center, the Blues' best goal scorer (Jimmy Snuggerud), best overall forward (Robert Thomas) and best defenseman (Philip Broberg) each scored as the Blues snapped their offensive drought. Jake Neighbours added a third-period goal on the power play.
Broberg (one goal, two assists) and Thomas (one goal, two assists) had three points on the evening.
With the win, the Blues (6-6-1) ended their five-game homestand with a 3-2-0 record.
Joel Hofer made 31 saves for the Blues. James Hagens scored for the Bruins.
St. Louis will embark on a four-game road trip beginning Saturday afternoon in Detroit.
Drawing it up
Snuggerud scored at 15:43 of the first period on the power play, clapping a one-timer on a set faceoff play just four seconds into Charlie McAvoy's interference penalty. With the faceoff in the right circle, Thomas set up for the draw with Broberg behind him at the blue line and both Snuggerud and Mason McTavish on the hashmarks in the middle of the ice.
Once Thomas won the faceoff, McTavish rubbed Marat Khusnutdinov with some slight interference, giving Snuggerud enough room to open up in the opposite circle to receive the pass from Broberg. It was Snuggerud's second power play goal of the season, and his seventh overall.
After the goal, Blues coach Jim Montgomery could be seen behind the bench pumping his fist in celebration and appearing to congratulate assistant coach Vinny Prospal.
The goal ended a drought of 139:38 for the Blues, as they were shut out in losses to Carolina on Saturday and Montreal on Tuesday. The Blues have never been shut out in three straight games.
Snuggerud tied the game at 1 after Hagens opened the scoring for the Bruins at 5:28, capitalizing on a Hofer turnover. Hofer played the puck behind the net, and sent it up the boards where Casey Mittelstadt picked it off and shot it on goal. Hagens got a tip on the puck for his fifth goal of the season.
Picking spots
The Blues pulled away in the second period on goals by Broberg and Thomas, turning a 1-1 tie into a 3-1 lead entering the third period.
Broberg scored by sniping the top corner over Jeremy Swayman's left shoulder for his third goal of the season. Dylan Holloway recovered Dalibor Dvorsky's dump in on the near boards, held the puck up and found Connor McMichael below the goal line. McMichael drifted behind the net and Broberg snuck into the slot for an open look.
The goal secured Broberg's second multi-point game of the homestand. He also had a goal and an assist last week against the Jets.
Thomas scored at 12:08, about seven minutes after Broberg, this time beating Swayman over his right shoulder to extend the Blues lead to two. The Blues forced a turnover in the neutral zone, which Justin Barron recovered and sprang Thomas across the blue line through the middle of the ice.
Thomas had Jake Neighbours to his right and Snuggerud to his left as the Bruins defense sank towards their goal. Thomas accepted the ceded ice and wired a puck for his second goal of the season.
The Blues had just one shot on goal in the second period after Thomas' goal, and none in the last 7:31 of the period.
