The Minnesota Wild battled the Utah Mammoth Tuesday in a physical showdown between the top two teams in the NHL’s Central Division.

The Wild pulled away late to finally shake off Utah 3-1 in a slugfest Tuesday night at Delta Center that saw the Wild lose another player to injury.

The animosity between the two teams seemed to grow as the game kicked into high gear.

Joel Eriksson Ek scored during the Wild’s fifth power play. Goalie Jesper Wallstedt’s came close to his first shutout of the season, but it was spoiled with 81 seconds left. He had 27 saves in the game.

Kirill Kaprizov scored his 14th goal of the season, leading the NHL. Maxim Shabanov scored his fourth goal with about eight minutes to play.

The Wild had seven power plays and there were three fights in the game. The Wild finished the game without captain Jared Spurgeon, who left after blocking two shots from Dylan Guenther during a second-period penalty kill.
