Wild lose in overtime to Oilers, 4-3

EDMONTON, Alberta — The Wild kept the Oilers’ stars in check at even strength.
But the power play was a different story.
Edmonton’s Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl dissected the improved Wild penalty kill, scoring three times to thwart the Wild’s rally with a 4-3 overtime win on Tuesday night at Rogers Place in a showdown of the NHL’s who’s who.
Evan Bouchard scored the game-winner during a 4-on-3 power play with 1:28 left in overtime after the Wild were whistled for having too many men on the ice.
Kirill Kaprizov netted his league-leading 11th goal to start a third-period rally that Ryan Hartman continued when he buried his first goal of the season.
Draisaitl converted twice on the power play, including a 5-on-3 buzzer beater late in the first period to lift Edmonton out of a 1-0 deficit from an early goal by the Wild’s Joel Eriksson Ek.
McDavid, the NHL’s leading scorer with 26 points, set up both Draisaitl goals and Bouchard’s clincher.
The Oilers’ third goal came three seconds after another power play expired, with Mathieu Joseph cleaning up a rebound in the second period to put an exclamation point on Edmonton’s dominance in the special-teams battle.
Later in the period, the Wild had a chance to answer back during their own back-to-back power plays, including a 44-second 5-on-3 opportunity that the Wild prepared for by calling a timeout.
But the Wild were denied, with Edmonton goalie Devon Levi making a windmill save on Quinn Hughes. The Wild power play went 0 for 3, while the Oilers were 3 for 5.
Jesper Wallstedt finished with 28 saves.
