ST. PAUL, Minn. — Matt Boldy’s signature game of the season couldn’t have come at a better time for the Wild.

With seven veterans hurt, the Wild held off the Blues, 5-4, at Grand Casino Arena after Boldy scored his fifth career hat trick.

The Wild winger also had an assist, his four points leading the way and tying his career high.

Kirill Kaprizov buried his NHL-leading ninth goal and added two assists. Quinn Hughes extended his season-opening assist and point streaks to eight games after setting up a goal for Boldy and Kaprizov.

Overall, the three combined for nine points; Joel Eriksson Ek, who centers Kaprizov and Boldy on the Wild’s top line that’s been a juggernaut since they started the 4-1 victory over Florida last Saturday together, also had two assists.

The Wild actually trailed first, getting behind on a Jonatan Berggren power-play goal only 1:45 into the first period.

But Boldy responded with a 5-on-3 power-play goal before the Russian line put the Wild ahead on a tic-tac-toe goal for Danila Yurov off passes from Yakov Trenin and Max Shabanov.

St. Louis answered back in the second on a breakaway during a poor line change for the Wild, but the Wild took control only 27 seconds later on Boldy’s second goal and were in charge the rest of the game.

Hughes’ patience with the puck set up Kaprizov for his ninth goal later in the second, and Boldy completed his hat trick before the period ended with a shot from the left circle.

The Blues' Robert Thomas capitalized short-handed late in the third before a last-minute goal from Dylan Holloway.

Jesper Wallstedt, in his return to the crease after a rare game off, made 20 stops.
