Fireworks nearly hit helicopter during pregame flyover before Seahawks-Bears game

SEATTLE — A flyover with four UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters ahead of Monday night’s Seahawks-Bears game drew audible reactions from some fans at Lumen Field.
The helicopters with the 2-158th Assault Helicopter Battalion 16th CAB flew over the stadium as the national anthem played before Monday’s game. Fireworks erupted from the tower above the Hawks Nest in the north end of the stadium right as the final aircraft was flying over.
Videos showing what appeared to be a close call went viral online. However, a public affairs officer from Joint Base Lewis-McChord confirmed there was no impact to the aircraft.
“We can confirm that no fireworks struck the aircraft, no aircraft were damaged, and no members of the aircrew were injured,” public affairs officer Lt. Col Cynthia Holuta said in an email to The Seattle Times.
A spokesperson for the Seahawks did not respond to a request for comment at the time of publication.
The Seahawks lost to the Bears, 34-17.
