Big days from Aaron Rodgers and Jaylen Warren power Steelers past Colts

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t exactly mop the floor with the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. And their defense didn’t exactly wash away what happened 10 days earlier in Cleveland.
But they dusted off a couple big plays from Jaylen Warren and did enough to clean their house — in Mike McCarthy’s words from earlier this week — in a 34-22 win against the Colts at Acrisure Stadium.
Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdowns passes for the third game in a row and continued his climb up the all-time passing list as the Steelers remained unbeaten at home (3-0) with their highest offensive output of the season.
Warren was once again their best player. The running back scored touchdowns with an 80-yard catch in the first quarter and a 50-yard run in the third.
He was the first NFL player to have at least an 80-yard touchdown catch and at least a 50-yard touchdown run in the same game since Dallas Cowboys running back Herschel Walker did it in 1986.
Warren finished with a career-high 188 yards against the Colts. He had 101 rushing yards and 87 more as a receiver.
The Steelers’ defense gave up six plays of at least 20 yards, five of them by Colts quarterback Daniel Jones. But they allowed only one touchdown. Spencer Shrader kicked five field goals, including two from 56 and 57 yards.
Rodgers now has 582 touchdown passes in his career, moving him past Hall of Famer Peyton Manning for third place all-time. What’s more, he tied Ben Roethlisberger’s NFL record of 19 passes of at least 80 yards or longer.
The rain that pelted Acrisure Stadium before the game stopped in time for Rodgers to get off to a sizzling start — sort of.
He completed all three pass attempts for minus-5 yards on the opening possession. After that, he completed nine in a row for 121 yards and two touchdowns. The highlight was a short swing pass that Warren caught at his own 20 and turned into an 80-yard touchdown.
It was just another example of the number of big plays provided by Warren, who continues to play nearly every offensive snap because Rico Dowdle missed his third consecutive game with a toe injury.
