MINNEAPOLIS — After adding Odell Beckham Jr. to their practice squad on Wednesday, the Vikings will have the wide receiver available to play on Sunday in New Orleans.

Beckham will be elevated from the practice squad for the Vikings’ game against the Saints, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The 33-year-old receiver could still be inactive for the game, depending on the status of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, but his elevation indicates the Vikings felt comfortable enough with his week of practice to go into Sunday with the possibility of him playing.

Both Jefferson and Addison are questionable for the game; Jefferson sounded optimistic about returning from his sprained ankle when he spoke with reporters on Wednesday, and practiced all three days this week in a limited fashion. Addison is dealing with what coach Kevin O’Connell described as minor hamstring soreness, though he returned to practice in a limited capacity after sitting out on Wednesday.

If Beckham plays, he’d begin his time with the Vikings in his home state, joining Jefferson in a bit of a homecoming tour for the two former LSU receivers who became first-round picks in the NFL. Beckham played at LSU with Jefferson’s older brother Jordan as his quarterback; this week Beckham recalled memories of Justin Jefferson following his brother around the Tigers’ practice facility.

“We’ve been brothers for a very, very long time,” Jefferson said Wednesday. “The connection has always been there. We’ve always talked about this moment, one day being able to play with each other. But for him to actually be here, it’s definitely crazy.”
