BALTIMORE — Desperate times call for desperate measures.

After seeing their offensive line — particularly at center — decimated by injuries, the Ravens acquired veteran Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens from the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday afternoon, the team announced. Baltimore also received a 2027 seventh-round draft pick, while Philadelphia got a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.

Jurgens is Baltimore’s fifth center this year.

“Cam is a player we have long admired going all the way back to the draft process,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement. “He’s a young foundational piece along our offensive line — a great scheme and cultural fit who will contribute quickly in Baltimore. We are confident that Cam will significantly impact our team and community.”

The move comes after the Ravens (3-1) lost Tyler Linderbaum in free agency to the Las Vegas Raiders in March and then Danny Pinter to a season-ending torn patellar tendon during a joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings in mid-August. Jovaughn Gwyn (fractured fibula) and Ethan Pocic (knee) also suffered what are expected to be season-ending injuries in the fourth quarter of their Week 3 win over the Dallas Cowboys in Rio de Janeiro.

Those latest injuries forced rookie first-round pick and starting right guard Vega Ioane to start at center in last week’s win over the Tennessee Titans.

Ioane is also expected to start this week against the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday night with Jurgens still in concussion protocol.

While Jurgens, 27, is a two-time Pro Bowl selection, he does come with his own set of concerns.

Last season, he had the second-highest blown block rate among centers, according to Sports Info Solutions. After playing center before shifting to guard in Week 2 for the Eagles this season, his overall Pro Football Focus grade is a meager 38.7, ranking 73rd among 74 qualifying guards in 242 offensive snaps.

He has also allowed 12 pressures, including a sack and a quarterback hit, and was flagged four times.

Still, the Ravens are in dire straits with a battered offensive line.

In addition to losing three centers, backup right guard Andrew Vorhees suffered a foot injury while filling in at right guard against Tennessee. Left tackle Ronnie Stanley is also dealing with a toe injury that has already cost him one game. Blocking tight end Durham Smythe suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon against the Titans.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is also in danger of missing at least the Falcons game after suffering a sprained left ankle injury that knocked him out late in the second quarter against the Titans after defensive lineman Jermaine Johnson II sacked him.

Jurgens, a former second-round pick, is under contract for four more seasons after agreeing to a four-year, $68 million deal with Philadelphia in April 2025.

He was also a key member of the Eagles’ Super Bowl team two seasons ago after replacing Jason Kelce at center. That made him the NFL’s second-highest-paid center before last season.

But a back injury hampered him in 2025 and led to surgery this past February to alleviate nerve pain.

His addition should at least boost the Ravens. Their wide-zone run scheme suits Jurgens’ athletic traits and will allow Ioane to return to his natural guard spot.

That is presuming Jurgens can stay healthy.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter is scheduled to speak with reporters following Wednesday’s practice.
