SAN DIEGO — Diego Pavia’s time in Baltimore was short-lived.

The Ravens waived the 2025 Heisman Trophy runner-up and undrafted rookie quarterback to make room on the 90-man roster for veteran center Ethan Pocic, who signed Thursday morning.

That trims Baltimore’s quarterback room to four: Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson and Joe Fagnano.

Pavia, a polarizing figure and former Vanderbilt star who rewrote the Commodores’ record books, was a long shot to make the 53-man roster. But the door was, at one point, cracked open for him to earn a spot on the practice squad. Baltimore signed him as an undrafted free agent in April.

“I know the program that he came from,” said Jesse Minter, who coached at Vanderbilt in 2021. “I know a lot of people that worked with him. Kind of what I think he is as a person is a really, really hard worker. I think he really helped elevate that program in the SEC by playing against really good competition.

“And so now he’s in the door, and it’s like, show us what you can do, let the chips fall where they may.”

Mathematically, the signing of Pocic pushed Pavia out the door, and those chips should fall without any surprises.
