KANSAS CITY, Mo. — When he met with the media last Wednesday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid mostly declined to talk about wide receiver Rashee Rice, who is currently serving 30 days in a Dallas County Jail.

Rice was jailed last month after violating his probation and that came shortly after he had undergone what was described as a clean-up surgery on his right knee.

Reid talked about how Rice was dealing with his knee in jail.

“We think he’ll be ready for (training) camp as we go forward,” Reid said. “We’ll just see how it goes. He’s been in communication with (Chiefs vice president of sports and performance) Rick (Burkholder), and he knows the rehab that he can do there, and I think they’re keeping an eye on him as far as any possible infection goes.”

On the same day Reid gave an update on Rice, a Dallas County judge approved two requests made by Rice’s lawyers on his behalf.

A Dallas County judge ruled that the county “Sheriff’s Department should transport Defendant to Parkland hospital to receive therapy for his knee.” It is roughly a 10-minute drive from the jail where Rice is serving his sentence to the hospital.

The court also approved Rice’s request to be moved from an isolated cell into the jail’s general population.

The State of Texas had not opposed either request.

According to records, Rice should be released from jail on June 16.
