Aaron Rodgers noncommittal about playing with Steelers in 2026

PITTSBURGH — Aaron Rodgers made his first public comments of the offseason on Wednesday in an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” and anyone hoping for news on his playing status for the 2026 season walked away disappointed.
Rodgers talked glowingly of his year in Pittsburgh with the Steelers and of his relationship with new coach Mike McCarthy. But when it comes to whether he’ll be the quarterback for the Steelers in 2026, things remain murky.
“Free agency starts in a week,” Rodgers said. “I’ve been spending a lot of time with my wife. I’ve talked to Mike and Omar [Khan]. There is no deadline. There is no contract offer. I’m a free agent. I’m enjoying this time with my wife at this point in the offseason. There are conversations that will be held down the line. I’m interested to see what those conversations will be.”
Rodgers earned $14.1 million last season, $13.6 million in salary and a $500,000 bonus for leading the Steelers to a playoff berth. Rodgers did not disclose how much he would play for in 2026.
The biggest news to come out of the appearance was what Rodgers has been dealing with in his personal life. Rodgers took the opportunity to divulge he no longer lives on Malibu Beach because he was stalked for the past year and a half.
“I’m not going to put up with that bull [crap] anymore,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers did appear to find some peace in Pittsburgh. He mentioned how his home life grounded him and gave him a different perspective on life.
“I had a blast,” Rodgers said. “When your off-the-field stuff is a blessing, it’s a home you can just play and enjoy the heck out of everything. To be able to go home and have that part locked in made the year fun. The home life was a different space than it’s been.”
Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season for the Steelers, who won the AFC North division title with a 10-7 record. The Texans defeated the Steelers, 30-6, in an AFC wild-card game at Acrisure Stadium. Rodgers was 17 for 33 for 146 yards and an interception in that game.
