Why former NBA All-Star Rasheed Wallace visited the Chiefs Wednesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The tallest fan at Chiefs training camp on Wednesday wore a No. 30 jersey with the nameplate, “SHEED.”

Rasheed Wallace, the 6-foot-11 four-time NBA All-Star, stayed for the entire workout, too, mixing business with pleasure.

The business: Wallace represents Underdog Fantasy, a sports gaming company. He and podcast partner Tyler Johnson filmed a spot breaking down Chiefs over/unders for the season.

Wallace liked the overs on passing touchdowns for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, receiving touchdowns for Travis Kelce, rushing touchdowns for Isiah Pacheco and sacks for Chris Jones.

And the pleasure? Wallace is a Chiefs fan. Big time. And not just a Mahomes-era fan.

“Since before Trent Green,” Wallace said. “Back when they were winning two games in a season. I’m not a bandwagon Chiefs fan.”

But he’s a happy one, watching these Chiefs win Super Bowls in successive seasons and three titles in the past five years. He attended the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Miami.

Two years ago, Wallace’s fandom put him at odds with his hometown. The Chiefs met the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, and Wallace was born and grew up in the City of Brotherly Love.

But there was no doubt about Wallace’s choice that day. He once attended a Chiefs-Eagles game in Philadelphia wearing a Derrick Thomas No. 58 jersey.

More Wallace love for the Chiefs: When he was traded from the Atlanta Hawks to Detroit and helped the Pistons win the 2004 NBA championship, Wallace wore a Chiefs hat to the news conference.

After the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII triumph, Wallace posted video of himself dancing and pouring two bottles of champagne over his head while wearing a Nick Bolton No. 32 jersey.

On Wednesday, Wallace made his way down to the field and greeted coach Andy Reid, Mahomes, Kelce and other Chiefs players.

It won’t be long before Wallace pays a second visit to the Chiefs. He’s planning on attending their Thursday Night Football season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 5.
