Mariners rally to win penultimate game after Kade Anderson exits early

SEATTLE — After receiving a major scare when Kade Anderson took a line drive off his throwing arm, forcing him out of the game, Jose A. Ferrer made a mockery of the sixth inning, blowing a four-run lead by allowing four runs. The Seattle Mariners, however, answered with four runs in the seventh inning to pick up an 8-4 victory over the Angels in the penultimate game of their 2026 season.

The Mariners will close out the regular season on Sunday at noon with right-hander Logan Gilbert making the start.

Anderson, the Mariners’ top pitching prospect, took a 104-mph line drive from Christian Moore off his forearm. Anderson was in immediate and obvious pain. Manager Dan Wilson and athletic trainer Taylor Bennett immediately came to the mound to talk to Anderson, who initially tried to wave them off. But after a very brief conversation, Anderson walked off the mound irritated about having to exit the game.

With the regular season ending in less than 24 hours, there was no reason for him to continue to pitch in Saturday’s game vs. the Angels. Risking any further injury would be silly for the Mariners.

The bundled-up crowd of 40,308 at T-Mobile Park gasped when Anderson was hit by the comebacker, gasped again when it was shown on the video board and then gave Anderson a warm round of applause as he stalked off the field.
