Mariners' Andrés Muñoz surrenders walk-off homer in another stunning loss to A's

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Lawrence Butler launched a sky-high, two-run home run off Mariners closer Andrés Munoz in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Athletics stunned the Mariners for the second time this weekend in an 8-7 walk-off victory Sunday afternoon.
The loss further sinks the Mariners’ already thin playoff chances.
Donovan Walton, the ex-Mariner, belted a two-run homer in the 10th inning off Eduard Bazardo on Friday night to give the A’s a walk-off victory in the series opener.
The M’s have lost five of seven to the A’s over the past 10 days.
The M’s are now 70-80 with 12 games remaining.
With one out and the tying run at third base — after a bloop double and a throwing berry by right fielder Dom Canzone — Muñoz was called on in the eighth inning for just the third time all season.
Muñoz struck out Henry Bolte on a check swing and then got Jeff McNeil to fly out weakly, stranding the runner at third.
Muñoz was seeking his first five-out save under Wilson and first since June 18, 2024 (under former manager Scott Servais).
