NEW YORK — Of course, just a week after selling at the trade deadline, the New York Mets are red hot.

The Mets continued swinging the lumber in their 8-5 win on Monday night against the powerhouse Atlanta Braves for their seventh victory in their last eight games. Brett Baty’s first-inning grand slam and Francisco Lindor’s solo shot in the third were the two big blows for Andy Green’s squad. Braves starter, who was having a nice season, owning a 3.69 ERA entering the start, allowed seven earned runs in five innings.

Lindor’s 11th homer of the year continued a very encouraging trend for the shortstop as he’s up to a .983 OPS in his last 15 games.

Christian Scott got the start for the Mets and didn’t have his best stuff. The right-hander tossed four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out six.

Bo Bichette, RBI single in the first, and Jared Young, RBI single in the second and sac fly in the ninth, accounted for the other runs scored by the Mets. Jonathan Pintaro, Nate Lavender and Daniel Duarte tossed a combined four innings with just one run allowed out of the Mets bullpen before handing the ball off to Kodai Senga who secured his first-career save in the ninth, recording a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.

A starting role for Senga didn’t exactly turn out the past two seasons, however, perhaps their is a valuable future for him in the bullpen

Nolan McLean will take the ball for the Mets on Tuesday night to try and secure another series victory — although they secured the season-series win over the Braves on Monday night. The right-hander is coming off a brutal outing where he allowed five earned runs in five innings against the Cleveland Guardians. Martin Perez will toe the slab for Atlanta.
