Mets sloppy again, drop 5th straight with loss to Cubs

NEW YORK — There seems to be no let-up in these Mets.
And not in a good way as the losses just keep on coming.
The Amazin’s fell to the Cubs in extra innings on Thursday night for their fifth straight loss, just one day after an embarrassing doubleheader sweep at Citi Field. Pete Crow-Armstrong’s 10th-inning double gave Chicago the 4-3 victory as Carlos Mendoza’s squad had no answer in the bottom half of the frame.
The Mets actually did show some fight throughout the game as they trailed 3-0 after the sixth inning as Alex Bregman drove in two with a double and Ian Happ drove in the final run of the frame with a single. Freddy Peralta was assigned the three runs; however, they were unearned due to two errors in the inning, one by Carson Benge and the other by Ronny Mauricio.
It’s the second straight night of sloppy baseball as Wednesday’s doubleheader was filled with errors, including a six-error performance from the Mets in the nightcap of the day-night split
Eric Wagaman drilled a two-run homer in the sixth to answer after the Cubs big inning and Jared Young hit the game-tying shot in the seventh to fully recover from the Mets ugly inning. However, the offense did nothing from there as Crow-Armstrong’s single off of Brooks Raley in the 10th proved to be the difference.
The Mets will host the Phillies on Friday to try and snap their five-game losing streak. Zack Wheeler will get the ball for Philadelphia while the Mets have yet to name a starter.
