Mets-Cubs postponed due to rain, will play doubleheader Wednesday

NEW YORK — A gloomy and depressing season was given a rest by a similar day.
The New York Mets‘ matchup against the Chicago Cubs was postponed due to rain on Monday. The game will be made up on Wednesday as a split doubleheader starting at 1:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. ET.
Kodai Senga was set to make his second start since returning to the big leagues. The right-hander has surrendered 24 runs in as many innings pitched this season to the tune of a 9.00 ERA.
Carlos Mendoza’s squad currently sits at 34-43, firmly in last place of the NL East and out of the playoff picture.
Positive update
While there hasn’t been much to get excited about this season, Mendoza delivered some good news on Monday.
Star shortstop Francisco Lindor (calf) is scheduled to play another rehab game on Tuesday and could be activated shortly thereafter.
Lindor hasn’t played since April 22, as the Mets clearly missed the dynamic he brought to the lineup. Lindor, however, was struggling prior to the injury. The veteran’s slashline reads .226/.314/.355 with two homers and five RBI in 24 games.
If the Mets are looking to charge back into relevancy — in some fashion despite being trade deadline sellers — Lindor will need to return in vintage form to charge the clubhouse.
