BALTIMORE — For the first time this season, the Orioles postponed a game because of inclement weather.

Baltimore will host the Houston Astros in a traditional doubleheader Thursday after a rain-heavy forecast forced the Orioles to call off Wednesday’s game. Game 1 will begin at 12:35 p.m. with Game 2 scheduled for 30 minutes after the end of the first contest. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. and Field Trip Day will proceed as planned.

Tickets for Thursday’s originally scheduled game will be valid for both games of the doubleheader. Fans with tickets for Wednesday’s postponed contest must exchange them through the Orioles’ website to attend the doubleheader. Tickets can also be traded in for another game at a later date if desired.

The Orioles hoped to play Wednesday, canceling early access to Eutaw Street in the morning and proceeding with an intent to get the game in, but they relented in the early afternoon as thunderstorms approached the region.

Thursday’s forecast projects a sunny-but-cool afternoon with temperature highs around 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

Chris Bassitt was scheduled to start for the Orioles (14-15) on Wednesday and Brandon Young on Thursday; the two right-handers are expected to remain Baltimore’s probable starters with a roster move coming for a 27th player, likely an extra arm for the bullpen. The Astros’ probable pitchers are right-handers Peter Lambert and Lance McCullers Jr.

A doubleheader sweep of Houston (11-18) would push the Orioles over .500 for the first time since they were 9-8 on April 14.

The Orioles played five doubleheaders last season, most recently July 29 at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. They went 5-5 in those games, including 4-2 at home. Oriole Park at Camden Yards is one of 22 stadiums across MLB with an open roof.
