SAN DIEGO — The Padres got another quality start, hit balls all over Petco Park and secured their first series win of the season with a 10-2 victory over the Cubs on Wednesday.

It was one of those days, as opposed to the other kind that they have mixed in early this season in which their starting pitcher has put them in an early hole and/or their offense has gone long stretches without doing much.

They have played well enough often enough to have a 7-8 record and to have scored at least nine runs four times. They have played poorly enough often enough to have scored no more than two runs six times.

Dylan Cease halted the two-game slide atop the starting rotation, following rough starts by Yu Darvish (four runs in three innings) and Joe Musgrove (four runs in four innings) by allowing just two unearned runs in six innings.

He was backed up by an offense that scored multiple runs in four different innings.

Jurickson Profar was 3 for 3 with a two-run homer and a run-scoring double. Jake Cronenworth drove in a pair of runs, one with a solo homer. Luis Campusano also had two RBIs.

Much of the damage was done against Kyle Hendricks, who entered the game with a 2.74 ERA in 14 career starts against the Padres.

They did the little things to take a 2-0 lead in the second inning before the Cubs tied the game with help from Ha-Seong Kim’s two-out error in the fourth.

For the first two of their seven runs against the soft-tossing Hendricks, the Padres hit the ball just hard enough to score twice in the second inning.

Profar’s one-out single the other way into left field spun off the end of his bat at 63.1 mph. Kim’s chopper dribbled most of the way to third base at 66 mph. Profar scored on Campusano’s 69.9-mph single to left field before Kim stole third base and scored on Jackson Merrill’s 73-mph groundout to the right side.
