Gadgets: A creative USB hub

Published in Science & Technology News

The ZIKE 6-in-1 USB C Hub is the most creative hub I've seen. Its space-saving clip-back design allows it to attach to various iPads, laptops and mobile phones.

It's designed with a hanging clip to attach to a device and easily expose the available ports in the hub. When connected, it is sturdy and stylish, doesn't give off heat, and, most importantly, allows easy access to all the port expansions. The angled hub does not block the screen.

The attached connection cable has a 90-degree USB-C plug to keep it flush with the device. It also has an inline switch to turn off and save the device's power when it's not in use.

The hub measures 3.30 by 1.42 by 0.76 inches and has three spacers of different thicknesses (0.05, 0.14 and 0.24 inches) for use with various devices, including those with varying thicknesses, so compatibility is not an issue. It has an aviation metal aluminum shell and provides excellent heat dissipation to ensure devices remain cool, even for long use.

What is important is the connections of the 6-in-1 USB-C Hub, which include a Type-C PD port that supports 60W power charging. There is also a TF UHS-I slot (microSD memory card), two USB-A 3.0 5Gbps ports, an HDMI 4K@60Hz port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

With the USB-C connection cable, the ZIKE 6-in-1 USB-C Hub can be used without attaching the clips to a device. Keeping it attached is a plus for backpack storage, portability, and avoiding constant unplugging and plugging. $77.99

Investing in a top-of-the-line mouse and keyboard might not seem worth it, but once you try it and use it, as the saying goes, you'll like it. That's the case with the new Logitech Signature Slim K950 Wireless Keyboard and Signature M750 mouse.

Logitech's Signature Slip Combo keyboard/mouse is designed for any level of computing, including long-hour work-from-home users. It has more features than typical entry-level keyboards and time-saving software features.

Measuring just 16.4 inches long, 5.3 inches wide and a slim 0.9 inches high, the Signature Slim K950 Wireless Keyboard has response keys and shortcuts such as volume control, play/pause and mute/unmute. It also has Smart Actions to automate multiple tasks into a single keystroke. It could be something complex or as easy as starting or ending your day in one touch. The keyboard also has tilted legs with an 8-degree typing angle.

According to Logitech, the mouse is built with left and right clicks and a scrolling wheel, which produces up to 90% less click noise. Scrolling is smooth and fast with the smartwheel. The mouse is rated for up to 24 months of battery life, and the keyboard for up to 36 months, depending on usage.

It's designed with easy device switching and software customization with the Logi Options+ App for Windows and macOS. These important features allow you to put in shortcuts and features you often do into programmable keys, which turns something that would have taken several keystrokes into the push of a button. It also includes ready-made Smart Actions templates.

Logitech Flow technology allows users to control multiple computers with one Flow-enabled mouse. Users can move the cursor to the edge of the screen to automatically switch between computers.

Both devices connect via Bluetooth or Logi Bolt to Windows, macOS, ChromeOSTM, Linux, iPadOS, iOS, and AndroidTM devices. $99.99 for the combo, available in Graphite and Pale Grey
