Do Just One Thing
One of the greenest ways to ship packages and send mail is through the United States Postal Service. Because USPS already travels to nearly every address in America, adding a package to an existing route can reduce emissions compared with creating an additional delivery trip. The Postal Service also operates one of the nation's largest civilian vehicle fleets, with more than 246,000 vehicles, including over 35,000 that run on alternative fuels. In many communities, there's an even greener approach: Approximately 6,100 letter carriers deliver mail entirely on foot, while others use bicycles on select routes.
