Celebrity Travel: Go away with Elisa Donovan

Jae-Ha Kim, Tribune Content Agency on

A: The first trip I remember as a child, I think was to go hiking in the Mohonk Mountains (in New York). I think I was maybe three or four. I remember falling asleep on my dad’s back when we were hiking. I remember the smell of the woods, the moss on the hike, the feel of the grass and the sun on my face rolling down that hill.

Q: Where are your favorite weekend getaways?

A: Napa. The landscape is gorgeous, the food is delicious, and the wine is divine.

Q: If you've ever gone away for the holidays, which was the best trip?

A: Paris over New Year’s. Oddly, it was the demise of my relationship at the time with my Spanish boyfriend, but the trip was incredible. He was a photojournalist working on a series about religious and monastic life, and we went to midnight mass in an ancient church with no electricity, lit only by candlelight. We climbed up into the rafters, so he could get aerial photos of the mass. It felt sacred. It was something I will never forget.

Q: Where would you like to go that you have never been to before?

A: I’ve never been anywhere in Asia or Greece and would love to.

Q: What is your best vacation memory?

A: I would have to say the best vacation memory would be meeting my husband in Sayulita, Mexico. (It was) a girls’ trip where three of the girls wound up married afterwards. Sayulita is a tiny surf town north of Puerta Vallarta and not a place you think of for meeting a long-term partner. But we always say, “Don’t go to Sayulita if you don’t want to get married!”
