Tea party: This simple recipe is perfect for any time of year

This ginger tea recipe was given to me by my nana. I love how comforting the smell and taste of this delicious drink is (and how it tickles my tongue!). Ginger has amazing healing properties (there's a reason ginger ale helps settle upset stomachs), so this tea is ideal to make during cold and flu season. It's also a nice way to use up any leftover ginger in your fridge.

If you like your tea sweeter, just add more honey! This tea is delicious served warm or steaming hot; for a refreshing summery drink, serve over ice with a little soda water and a slice of lemon for fizzy alternative to lemonade.

Ginger Tea with Lemon & Honey

Serves 4

1 Lemon

4 1/4 cups water

227 grams of ginger, peeled, cut into 1-inch pieces

1 to 2 tablespoons honey

1. Cut lemon in half, and squeeze juice into a cup and set aside. Cut squeezed lemon into quarters and add to a medium pot with water and ginger.

2. Bring to a boil over high heat, and then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.

3. Carefully strain tea through a fine-mesh sieve to remove ginger and lemon. Stir in reserved lemon juice and honey.

Tasty tips

--Peel ginger with the back of a spoon or with a vegetable peeler.

--The amount of ginger you need for this recipe is a large piece that's roughly the size of your hand; that's how my nana measures the ginger for this recipe.
