What’s the most concise way to be an effective witness?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I was asked by a co-worker what the Gospel of Jesus is. I couldn’t explain it clearly. What’s the most concise way to be an effective witness? I want to be faithful in speaking God’s truth. – R.W.

A: The Bible says, “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4, NKJV) and that by this gospel “you are saved” (1 Corinthians 15:2, NKJV).

The love of Jesus Christ is so great for mankind that He came to this earth and walked among people to demonstrate His love. His three-year public ministry led Him to the cross where He shed His blood for us. The sins of mankind were placed upon Him who took our penalty for sin. Jesus bore our sins to set us free from sin. He conquered death and was resurrected for the purpose of giving eternal life to all who will submit to Him. What must we do to receive His great salvation?

Repent. This means to acknowledge our sin and receive God’s forgiveness and to determine — with His help — to live for Him by faith. When we come to Christ in childlike faith and surrender to Jesus, we commit to Him that we will turn from sin and walk toward Him, desiring to obey His Word and follow Him. He empowers us to do this. We won’t be perfect, but His Spirit will guide us joyfully.

No one ever hears the Gospel proclaimed without making some kind of decision. The Spirit of God will go ahead of us when we witness — preparing the way, giving us the words, and granting us courage to speak His truth. Not everyone will accept Him, but God will help us be witnesses for His Name.
