Countdown to a Retrograde

Holiday Mathis on

Say what you need to say now when the message is more likely to fall gracefully on the ears of your intended. Tomorrow, Mercury goes retrograde on the day of fools, and it will be trickier to figure out the right words, tone and timing. Furthermore, this is a better day for commerce, so get your shopping out of the way before tomorrow.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Gratitude turns whatever you have into enough. The form of thanks that will come easiest to you today? Pleasure. When you take pleasure in an outcome, your joy will be taken as the purest kind of thanks.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The freeway of life is not without distractions. Though a quick look around at unfamiliar scenery tells you that you have indeed missed your exit, don't panic. You are still on the road to fulfill your destiny. Let the GPS reroute.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). With a person you trust, sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings can feel as comfy as a cozy sweater. Someone special will tune in to your emotions, and you'll be wrapped in the warmth of closeness.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Change is the only constant. When knocked off your center of gravity, it's a chance to hone the art of the quick save. You'll strengthen your core, shorten your reaction time and broaden your range of moves.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). This is a beautiful moment. What you're looking for is trying to find you, too. Things like this don't happen every day, and yet you still have to keep your cool to pull this off.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). There's nothing like the purposeful feeling of being in sync. You had it when a friend reached out precisely when you needed it with exactly the right help. And you'll have it even more strongly when you're the one who saves the day for others.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You really do know what it's like to cherish someone's quirks, honor their boundaries and respect their independence. Make sure they do the same for you. Keep the bar high in relationships. Mutual respect is nonnegotiable.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Being too comfortable with your role in a scene will keep things the same as usual. The trouble is, "usual" doesn't benefit or grow you, and it's about to get very boring, too. Trade comfort for boldness, routine for adventure.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Even though you're a big fan of order, there are some people you love so much that when they make a mess of things, it's like art to you. You'll (metaphorically) frame it as you would the artwork of a beloved child.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You'll make money, but that's not the hard part. Keeping your money is the thing. It will help to limit your scrolling, which only makes you vulnerable to marketers who know what buttons to push to get your sale.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Instead of ruminating about what went wrong back there, imagine it didn't. Think of yourself as saying and doing it the way you would have liked it to go. This increases your chances of getting it right the next time.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). It's true that your broad emotional range can take a great deal of energy to manage and contain. Sometimes, it's euphoria, and other times an aching want, but you're grateful. It's better than feeling nothing at all.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (March 31). You're more of a scientist than an optimist this year, and that is also your success secret. You correctly assess what you're up against and then vault the obstacles like an Olympian. Practicality and effectiveness wins you money, friends and position. Interesting people will sparkle up your world, and you'll also enjoy being someone's all-time favorite person to spoil. Taurus and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 17, 28, 31, 29 and 38.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Christopher Walken rejoins his friend John Travolta in the musical comedy "That's Amore!" These legendary stars showed their collective artistic instinct appearing together in the hits "Pulp Fiction" and "Hairspray." With well over 100 major entertainment enterprises in his illustrious career, a truer original than Walken would be hard to find. Walken was born when the sun and Mercury were in energetic Aries and the moon and mars were in eccentric Aquarius.
