Black to Play and Mate
Published in Chess Puzzles
Time to crash through to victory.
Solution:
From a game won by Panov over Moiseev in 1955:
1...c3 2.Na2 [This is the prettiest mate possibility: 2.Rd1 Rxa3+ 3.bxa3 Qxa3+ 4.Na2 (4.Qa2 Nc2#) 4...Qxa2+ 5.Qxa2 Nc2#; 2.bxc3 Rxa3+ 3.Kb2 Rb3+ 4.Nxb3 Qa3#] 2...Qd3 3.Rhc1 [3.Rhd1 Nc2+ 4.Qxc2 Qxc2 5.Rdc1 cxb2+ 6.Rxb2 Qxb2#] 3...c2 4.Rf1 cxb1Q+ 5.Rxb1 Nc2+ 6.Qxc2 Qxc2 7.h4 Raxa3 8.h5 [8.bxa3 Rxb1#] 8...Rxa2+ 9.Kxa2 Rb4 10.h6 Ra4#
Black's first move made it much quicker than the messy 1... Rxa3+ 2. bxa3 Qxa3+ 3. Na2 Nb3+ 4. Rxb3 cxb3 5. Rf1 h6 6. Qf7+ Kh8 7. Qf2 Qa4 8. Qb2 Qc4 9. Rf2 Rxa2+ 10. Qxa2 bxa2 11. Rb2 Qxe4 and Black wins, but it will take a little longer.
