A win looks on first sight rather remote: Bishops of opposite color and the White rook pawn still a distance away and Black can give up the bishop for the a-pawn and draw. However, White can win here.


This endgame study was composed by Alexander Hildebrand of Uppsala, Sweden. 1.Bd7+ Kc7 1...Kxd7 2.Kxb8 2.Bxe6 Kc6 3.Bd7+ Kc7 4.Bb5 Kc8 5.Ba6+ Kc7 6.Bb7 Ba7 7.Kxa7 Kd8 8.Kb8 and the pawn easily promotes.
