Q: His voice seems crucial to the viewer's understanding of the deal between the two of you.

A: As he says in the trailer, "I quit. I f—ed up." We were in Calgary and he didn't make it. I mean, car in the driveway, plane on the runway, suitcase in the trunk. We had a show that night. And this was the third time, not the first or second. We needed him to go to rehab again and he wouldn't go. But it wasn't like, "You're out." He was never fired. These were my brothers.

Q: Do you know if Richie's seen the doc?

A: He came to watch it at my house in September. We screened it together.

Q: What was that like?

 

A: Great. There's no animus. It's 11 years ago.

Q: Is he in a good place?

A: Yeah, he's writing and recording.

Q: Have you listened to his solo stuff?
