Flood watch issued for South Florida. When will the rain stop?
Published in News & Features
MIAMI — South Florida is under a flood watch through Monday evening, with a 90% chance of rain in the forecast.
“The environment continues to support the potential for heavy rainfall,” according to the National Weather Service.
Monday is starting out wet, and the rain will continue through the day, according to forecasters. The flood watch is in effect until 7 p.m.
Also, coastal flood and rip current advisories are in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
“The ground is already saturated” from rain and the king tide surge, said Lissette Gonzalez, a meteorologist with Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami.
While Monday will be soggy, conditions could improve in the evening and on Election Day.
Tuesday’s forecast calls for 60% chance of rain in South Florida, with storms most likely before 3 p.m. and after 5 p.m. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“Thankfully, it is not looking quite as wet,” Gonzalez said.
The better weather trend will return later this week and into the weekend, with drier air and lower temperatures, Gonzalez said.
